So, by far the most fun thing that has happened recently is that I got my SFWA decoder ring. I don’t know if any of my fellow members will actually send me coded messages, but that’s not the point, is it. The point is that we could (and I’m hoping someone will.)
As a kid, I always wanted to get the prize in the box, the decoder ring, the cheap toy, the little plastic top, the glow in the dark pen. I don’t think they do that sort of thing anymore (I don’t each much kids’ cereal these days), but if not, they really should. There’s nothing quite like secret codes.
When I was a kid, I used to make up codes and languages all the time. Of course, I’d forget them and lose my loose pages of notes after a day or two, so I’d happily start all over.
I’ll be the professional orgs for romance and thriller authors don’t get anything so cool!
